Natural stress relievers for pregnancy

You;re pregnant and stressed out? No glass of wine to comfort you, no giant box of chocolates because of the risks of gestational diabetes, ah dear, it can be hard to really loosen up when you are feeling swollen, tired and stressed out!

If you are in your first or third trimester, likelihood is you are feeling quite tired right now. If you have other kids, then this fatigue will probably last throughout the whole pregnancy! What treats can you give your body to feel rested and stress free.

Try and chill out when your children rest or at least have a lie down. Try to go to bed a earlier than your usual time, even if you can’t go to straight to sleep, it will do your body good to take some weight off.

Drink plenty of water, this will not only help with your inevitable swelling but will also help stave of the chronic fatigue. If you can afford it, treat yourself to a day at the spa or go every month for a pedicure of manicure. Better still, try and have a regular massage with someone specifically trained n prenatal massage and who understands a pregnant woman’s body.

Acupuncture is a great treatment when you are pregnant as it is so non invasive and is gentle. Many pregnancy conditions can be treated with acupuncture or acupressure including morning sickness, swelling, carpal tunnel, pain and stress.

If you do plan on visiting an acupuncture clinic, do make sure that the practitioner you will be visiting is fully trained to work with pregnancy and postpartum. Do not risk seeing anyone who doesn’t have this experience. Ask your health practitioner for a recommendation. If you have a midwife it is highly likely that she has referred to an acupuncturist in your community.
